Remarkable Pair of 18th Century French Canadian Side Chairs

Made of walnut with a rich colour and deep patination. The waisted shaping of the backs, echoed in the vase-shaped splats, is a very English form of chair, while the shape of the cabriole legs and the intricate carved decoration are typical of the Regence period of France. Made in Quebec circa 1770.
